From famous architectural masterpieces, breathtaking mountain ranges and beautiful beaches, Italy is packed with numerous attractions. Italy is also known for being home to some of the world’s best-known pasta dishes making it a perfect destination for any kind of holiday. As you plan your holiday, you might have some questions about how to find all things Halal in Italia. Be assured, this guide will help!
Do’s and Don’ts in Italy
As like any big city, you have to be very careful about your belongings. Make sure that you keep all valuables out of our pockets and always bring a bag that zips closed so that it deters anyone from trying to get to your belongings.
Not all shops and restaurants take credit cards, and it’s better to be safe when it comes to that kind of thing so that you aren’t left feeling stranded and unable to pay after finishing a meal.
Don’t expect an early dinner in Italy! With lunch at around 1 PM, most restaurants do not open for dinner before 7:30 PM. Especially during the summer months, it’s not unusual to find Italians dining out after dark, which can be as late as 8:30 – 9 PM and even later the further South you go in Italy. When making a reservation, don’t ask for a time earlier than 7:30 – 7:45 PM. And, generally, if you make a reservation at a restaurant, particularly the non-touristy variety, your table will be waiting for you the entire evening. So you’ve got nothing to worry about should you arrive a few minutes late.
Tips are not expected in Italy but are greatly appreciated by service staff! Local Italians only tip if it is a special occasion or event. Service staff are generally career professionals rather than college or high school students, as you may be used to in American culture.
As a pedestrian, remember to look both ways when crossing the street. Italian drivers do not expect pedestrians to jump out in front of them. Cars have the right of way over pedestrians.
Italians tend to dress up even when they head to the town square or a neighborhood spot for dinner. Comfy and casual vacation wear may be your go-to, but when traveling in Italy you’ll want to leave the exercise clothes for the gym. Instead, opt for something smart and put together!
The best time to travel to Italy is May/June or September/October. Don’t listen to google regarding this. Europeans have holidays July and August so Italy is full of holiday makers and it’s super super hot during these months. The prices are also heavily inflated as it’s peak season.
Train rides are the most common means of transport to get you between various cities in Italy and you can book high-speed train rides that take you through scenic routes to reach your destination fast and at affordable. ltalo Treno/ltaliarail are the main rails. All tickets can be purchased online.
They have trains that leave at different times, and different classes too. Always check both because some might have specials running. You don’t need to validate your online train ticket purchases. You can also book via the automated ticket machines at the stations if you want to book last minute ones, those will give printed tickets that you need to validate. Always Always check train times before the time to avoid getting stranded at night. Internal transport inside the cities, you can use busses. These tickets can be purchased from the tabacchi shops. Best to take a return ticket so you don’t need to go back to the shop again. These must be validated when you get onto the bus. Do not get onto the busses without buying a bus ticket and validating it. You will get fined €54 which is not fun.
How to choose which cities to go to?
A little bit sunshine or a lot of history? Italia has it all. My favourite trips are the ones that incorporate both. But if you are in a time crunch, Rome, Venice and Amalfi Coast has all the sunshine and history that you need. Other favourites were Cinq Terre and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
